Have you ever tried skydiving? I haven’t, but after reading an article on the ABC news website about a 100 year-old grandmother planning to do a parachute jump, I’m tempted to give it a try.
There were two great expressions in this article, too. The first is ‘take the plunge‘. This means to start doing something dangerous or difficult.
The other interesting expression is in the last paragraph:
Now she is preparing for the drop from about 3,000-4,000 meters and a shot at the record books.
When we say ‘take a shot at‘ something, we mean to attempt to do that thing.
Have you ever taken a shot at skydiving?
